Nau mai, haere mai.

Ko Taranaki ki uta
Ko Ngāmotu ki tai
Mai i te Manga o Herekawe
tae atu ki te awa o Waiwhakaiho
me hoki mai anō ki tēnei wai tapu

Ki te tūrangawaewae o Ngāti Te Whiti
te ūkaipō o te hapū e noho nei
Kei te mihi
Kei te mihi
Kei te mihi

New Plymouth has been without a central marae for over 150 years.

Ngāti Te Whiti Hapū plan to redress that with a new community facility – Ngāmotu Marae, built on hapū-owned land adjacent to Ngāmotu Beach.

This website outlines our vision and aspirations for this significant project. As we take steps forward together, we are guided by the principles of Kaitiakitanga, Kotahitanga, Manaakitanga, Mātauranga Māori, Mauri, Rangatiratanga, and Whanaungatanga.

Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamaua / I walk backwards into the future with my eyes fixed on my past.

Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamaua / I walk backwards into the future with my eyes fixed on my past.

A home for Ngāti Te Whiti.
A marae for our city.

As a cultural focal point for our hapū and city, this development has been decades in the making and the wish of many generations.

Ngāmotu Marae will bring people together, to share knowledge and understanding, while strengthening traditions and connection, so we all understand why the land that we all walk on, the rivers, the ocean, the vegetation, and the living are to be cared for. This is the legacy our tipuna have left for everyone to strive for, to maintain and to continue into the future.

Let’s build this
marae together.

With generosity and support from across our community, we can begin construction.
We welcome your support today for this vital project.
